Have You Tried Stumble Upon?

November 22nd, 2007

The internet never ceases to amaze me.  You really can find anything you’re looking for and if you’re looking for randomness, nothing beats Stumble Upon for pure entertainment value.

  • Are you stumped for ideas about what to make for dinner?  Don’t want to go grocery shopping?  How about this site to suggest recipes using what you’ve got in your fridge and pantry?
  • Do you think you can give Picasso a run for his money?  Try your hand at creating an artistic face with Mr. PicassoHead.  It’s addictive!  Let me see your self-portrait results!
  • I thought my morning had gotten off to a bad start the other day when I went down to the car and had to scrape frost off for the first time this season.  This would just make me a sobbing mess.  Time to whip out the blow-torch.
  • And this had me howling with hilarity.  Really, why can’t I own a Canadian?  And, in case you’re wondering about its authenticity, visit Snopes for some background.
  • How about some awe-inspiring moments frozen in time?  Perfectly-Timed Photos is just the ticket!  It starts out a bit slow, but you’ll marvel at the luck? - skill? - of these photographers.
  • Would you like to learn to write Elvish?  Here’s an easy tutorial for creating beautiful art out of words.
  • How about a fun test to confound your senses?  I had the most difficult time with food-matching!
  • Don’t you just love Douglas Adams?  I’m probably one of the few people you know who will admit to having both watched and enjoyed "Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" just for the quirky quotes and insane plot.  Of course the books are better but isn’t it just fun to see it?
  • How does your reading list compare with the Random House 100 Best Novels?  After a quick scan of the Board’s List, I realized I’d only read 6 of the top 30 but the Reader’s List aligned more with my tastes and I’ve read 15 of the top 30, almost entirely of my own choosing.
  • Make your own flowers here.  I couldn’t get the hang of it, but it sure is fun!  Pink daisies are about as creative as I could get!

I know it’s not always productive to surf the internet, but sometimes I feel more connected to a bigger community when I step outside my comfort zone and experience new ideas.  If you’re tired of your Feeds and Favorites, give Stumble Upon a try for some eye-opening randomness.

Tschüss!
