What Have We Learned, Class?

January 14th, 2008

I didn’t want to have to admit it because writing it down makes it real and I soooo don’t want it to be real but it is, so here I go…

I lost an external hard drive.  The one with all my digi supplies.  The one with every layout I’ve completed since May.  The one I’ve been trying furiously to back up to my C: drive, disks and my other external for several months now but couldn’t because it errored out any time I tried to move or copy more than one file at a time.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to back up 120 gigs one file at a time?  It’s darn near impossible, is what it is.

I wanted to back up online with Mozy, but the darn drive wasn’t cooperating with that, either.

So far, I’ve found most of the supplies that I remember having, though I had to contact Marcie Reckinger at Funky Playground Designs for a new copy of her Peeled and Revealed templates because, frankly, I can’t imagine scrapping without them in my arsenal.

I may have lost forever some Weeds & Wildflowers freebies I had (and adored) and a free with purchase set with stuff from Traci Murphy that I used like crazy.  And I have no idea what I lost of my recent fall purchases because I hadn’t yet unzipped them all or moved them to permanent archive.  Thank goodness all my Christmas stuff is in a separate folder that was duplicated on both externals.

You’ll be happy to know that all my photos are safe.  Everything was stored on both my EHDs and all but 2007 (and now 2008) are backed up to disks, as well.

So, to try to get back my mojo and begin working on layouts again, I made a template and scrapped a Christmas page with it. (Sorry, download link has expired.)

Everything from Oscraps Jolly-O kit except my template and my snowflake.  Click preview to download template.

I’m a little in shock right now, of course, and I’m bumbling through my files trying to figure out just how much was lost and every day I find something else.

Later today, the Unclutterer will be publishing a post I wrote for them about the uncluttering benefits of digital scrapbooking and digital image storage.  I’ll update with a link when it goes up, so be sure to visit and leave comments.

Tschüss!
