Scan Your Photos and Remove Clutter From Your Home
Yesterday, I blogged on Unclutterer about removing photo clutter from my life. I started with my wedding photos - mainly because they’d turned out terrible and I wanted the opportunity to have a go at them with Photoshop. I sent all the negatives to a local photo shop and spent a small fortune having the negatives scanned as high-resolution jpegs.
There’s a better way. ScanCafe will scan your slides, negatives, and photos, as well as special items like medium format slides, APS film, and newspaper clippings. Negatives and slides are scanned at 3000 dpi with top of the line Nikon 5000ED and Nikon 9000ED scanners while photos are scanned at 600 dpi, which is the optimal quality level for photos. Plus, ScanCafe adds free post-scan services such as manual color correction and manual color balancing. They even offer professional services at higher resolutions but these really only apply if the media are of high quality and have been stored well.
Their prices are fabulous, starting at only 19 cents per negative and 27 cents per print but, even better, you’re not obligated to purchase every image scanned. You may review all of the scans and select up to 50% for deletion, prior to final payment. I know of no other scanning service that meets that standard.
If you need a bigger push than that to get you to commit to converting your photos to digital, read Money Magazine’s independent review that rates ScanCafe at the top for image scanning or Popular Photography’s interview and test run.
