What’s that saying about March?  “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb?”  They really weren’t kidding, were they?  After living all my life in the desert Southwest of the United States, I’d pretty much decided all those sayings were just ridiculous bits of prose made up by people with nothing better to do than weave, churn butter, make soap, do laundry by hand, darn socks… you get my drift?

Well, let me tell you, this morning “they” were proved right!  I was all set for sleeping in - a “lie-in,” if you will - and was snuggled down amongst my 600-thread count sheets, loose-weave cotton blanket and luxurious cold-weather down comforter when CRACK! BOOM! Rooooolling THUNDER! … followed closely by ‘ting-ting-plop-tink-tink’ the sounds of hail pounding against every window in the house.  This isn’t an easy thing, either.  Because our windows face in three different directions, so for hail to pound all of them equally, there had to be some rather bizarre winds lashing the house.

So, the lion has definitely roared on this, the first day of March, and a check of the weather forecast suggests that we may actually be in for the first real snow of the season in the coming week.  Snow!  In March!  When December stubbornly refused to produce a magical White Christmas and January stoically stood fast against blanketing our sledding hills with the crystalline white stuff.  Now, by February, I’m over my desire for fat, fluffy flakes fluttering freely (say that ten times fast) and looking forward to all the signs of spring, but March?  I’m thinking about the onset of Major League’s spring training, where to get the best chocolate Easter bunnies, whether to dress the kids in ribbons or lace or ribbons and lace for the holiday and… darn it! no one has snow pants that fit any more!

Well, thankfully, the storm has had no impact on our internet connection or electricity - thank God for underground power lines and intelligent German engineering - so I can scrap and surf while I listen to the patter of raindrops turn into the pounding of hail and then become wet, sloshy snowballs.

Hope your month has started off well!

Tschüss!

NOTE: I’ve found a temporary fix for the comments issue, so feel free to communicate.  I miss you guys!
