Keep Reading, I’ll Make it Worth Your While…

June 5th, 2008

A few days ago we had an amazing storm.  I love thunderstorms and heavy rainstorms - the louder and more furious, the better - but I’m leery of those that are actually life-threatening and likely to cause property damage.  This one was both.

The day started out bright, sunny and warm and it seemed the whole city was out on the lawns of our biggest parks, playing football (soccer, for those of you in the U.S.), Frisbee and even “catch.”  If you live in the upper latitudes, I’m sure you understand how the sunshine draws people out of their homes after a long, dark winter so you can probably imagine how crowded the outdoor spaces were on this fine day.

I’d been out shopping with a friend (finally found pinto beans in Dresden! Yea!) and got home in the late afternoon.  I sat down to rest my weary feet when, all of a sudden, a blast of wind shot through our open living room window like a mighty fist.  Within seconds, during which we were frantically rushing to all the open windows in our flat, the harsh sound of stone-hard ice pellets pummeling our windows, slate roof and outer walls rose and continued for well over fifteen minutes.

The hail and wind beat leaves, blossoms and branches off trees and bushes, heavy with new growth and the streets flowed rivers of green until the storm drains clogged and our street became a shallow lake.  The damage on our terrace included tears in our barbecue grill cover and the loss of more than half of the flower buds in our planters but the real damage was downstairs - in our parking space.  Our car was parked, unprotected, in its space, where it was subjected to the full force of ice chucks around 1-inch across bouncing off its surface.  It now has hundreds of dimples on every horizontal surface, looking a bit like my thighs. Ugh.

So, while the storm was thrilling and brought much-needed rain, now I have to arrange to have the car repaired and notify the insurance company of the damage.  Time I ‘d rather spend doing anything else.  Like scrapping.

Here’s another page I’ve finished for my daughter’s book…

200804DISprom_small

I’ve got several in-progress but, as I’ve whined about before, she’s not too forthcoming with the pictures so it’s difficult to finish without the images I need.  I’ve also begun a “Friends” layout and the left-hand page is completed…

friends01_small

… but I’m short about 14 pictures for the second page.

Now you’re faced with a choice.  I’ve got both wordart and a new template to share and I’d like to know which you’d prefer first.  To make it interesting, I’ve got a Songbird Avenue gift card to award to one randomly-selected commenter.  I’ll draw next Wednesday evening (it’s the earliest night that I’ll have to myself) and announce the winner then.

Keep Reading, Ill Make it Worth Your While...If you’re not yet familiar with Songbird Avenue, you really must check it out!  This project spear-headed by Jan Crowley and Meredith Fenwick provides a new, exclusive kit each month designed by guest artists (often in collaboration with Jan and Meredith) and forwards the entire amount of the profits to the charity of the guest’s choice.  This month’s designer is Vickie Stegall of Oscraps and her charity is Mercy Corps.  Isn’t her kit, Leap of Faith, just beautiful?  I think so.  Wouldn’t you like to win a gift card to purchase this?  Just leave a comment here, telling me what kind of freebie you want next and you could win.

Tschüss!

I’m a fan of all 3 - obsession with word art. have fallen in love again with templates. maybe because with summer time is more limited and they sure speed things up plus so many new designs out there. i love the songbird kits but have never been able to purchase one.

These layouts are really cool. I’d love it if someone did that for me. :)

I’m making a card and a layout of my nephews for my dad for father’s day. Testing out my new skills and turning them into a little gift. :)

The Friends LO is beautiful! And I don’t know how to fit 14 photos on a page… that’s a pretty amazing feat.

And I like wordart (I haven’t quite got the hang of templates, yet).

  13. Becky on June 6, 2008 7:47 am

Hmm…that’s a hard choice! I vote for the template first please.

I’ll always take the word art over templates! I scrap with DIP 10 and can only use separate PNG file templates … TIF, PSD, etc. don’t “layter” in my program, unfortunately.

So, I vote for WORD ART! (pretty please)

Lovely layout of your daughter’s prom. And the friend LO is spot-on accurate. Thanks for sharing, and I’m glad you survived the storm. We’ve had really rough weather in the US this year with killer tornadoes and damaging hail, like you experienced. Be safe and good luck with the insurance company!

I’ll chose Word Art. It tends to inspire me more.

Great LOs! I know about the “needing” photos issue. I’m waiting on ones of my smallest niece…
