Seeing Red

July 12th, 2008

You may have noticed a few changes in the blog.  I’m tired of the color scheme and even the general layout of the thing, so I’m doing my bit to tweak the template.  It’s by no means finished and you can probably expect a certain amorphous quality to this site over the next several weeks.  I’m even open for suggestions, if you feel so inclined.

Additionally, you’ll notice that the freebie links have all expired.  It’s not the end of freebies, but I need to get a handle on my bandwidth usage and I’m also considering the possibility of selling my designs.  I wasn’t interested in that idea before, but things change when your partner receives notice of layoff.  We’re fine, for now, but I need to do what I can to contribute to our finances and working outside the home while my kids are still young wasn’t what I wanted to do.

So I’m trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to sell from my blog or find a store.  I guess I’ll puzzle it out as I work on the design changes here and you’ll know what I decide when I do.

In the meantime, I’ve reviewed the results of my poll about file types for templates and it’s more in line with my poll about which software everyone uses.  Since 40% of my visitors use an Adobe product, it makes sense that that percentage (or really close, anyway) want plain old PSD files.  Since my goal is inclusion, not exclusion, I threw out those answers and decided on TIFF and individual PNGs.  I found out a little more about file compression for TIFFs and now they’re smaller than the PSD files so everyone should be happy now.

And here’s the latest template I’m sharing after getting a specific request from a reader.

gm_slt17_pre

Hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to let me know what you think.  (Sorry, the free download link has expired. You can find it here now.)

Tschüss!

    gm!

I’ll die if I cannot have ’simply life 17′

You cannot create such masterpieces when I’m on vacation for a week w/o a computer.

    I’ll do anything you ask — any-thing!

Forgot to comment on the file type….
I voted PSD, but a smaller TIFF shall work fine.
As a Photoshop user I can always save as a PSD if I really want to.

Amorphous quality - LOVE that. :-)

And your template is awesome! Except I was confused - are you still including PSD’s or no?

    Happy Saturday!
